Description
Captain America Annual #12 includes the stories and bonus features listed below. The main story, “Blood of a Fighter,” was written by Mark Gruenwald and David Wohl, with art by M.C. Wyman and inks by Charles Barnett III. It follows young Puerto Rican boxer Roberto Velasquez, who undergoes a strength-enhancing procedure from the notorious Dr. Karl Malus. His superhuman power causes an accidental tragedy in the ring, ending his boxing career and beginning his new path as the superhero Battling Bantam.
The second story, “...And In This Corner, the Battling Bantam!”, follows Captain America as he investigates doping and teams up with Bantam to stop Malus’s boxer-enhancement lab. The third story, “Bantam Returns,” shows Bantam returning to Puerto Rico as a boxing trainer while continuing his work as a local hero.
The issue also includes a bonus pin-up gallery with Falcon, Crossbones, Captain America & Falcon, Diamondback, and another M.C. Wyman & Charles Barnett III pin-up. This annual has historical importance for Marvel fans, since it marks the first appearance of Battling Bantam.
This copy is still in its original protective publisher plastic and has never been opened. Inside is the original “Bantam Super Hero” collector card, marked “1993 Annuals” at the top, which increases the comic’s collectible appeal, especially in VF condition. The comic is in VF (Very Fine) condition, which means very good condition with only minor signs of wear. It may show light corner wear or small surface scratches, but it is complete and attractive for collectors. Customers should always verify condition using the actual photos of the copy.
