Justice League of America Facsimile Edition #1A is a faithful reprint of the team’s first self-titled issue, originally a major Silver Age DC milestone. In the story, Gardner Fox and Mike Sekowsky pit Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman, and Martian Manhunter against the tyrant Despero in a surreal chess match where the heroes themselves become the pieces. The conflict is equal parts science fiction spectacle and superhero teamwork, showing the broad, adventurous tone that made the JLA DC’s flagship team.
